Unlucky defeat of Genoa in Cagliari: 2-1

Alessandro Lucarelli scored his first goal with Genoa

On the island Sardinia Genoa lost 3 points against Cagliari but remained on the 8th position in the standings. Of course it was clear it would be a difficult match without Konko, Paro, Santos and Bovo and after 2 great victories against Udinese and Napoli. It also was known that Cagliari would be very agressive and motivated because they lost Friday 3 points behind the green table.

However Genoa started the match very good. In the first 15 minutes there was a header of Sculli over the goal, a shot of Borriello that was saved by goalkeeper Storari, a header of De Rosa and finally the first goal of Lucarelli after a fantastic cross of Fabiano: 0-1. The breakpoint of the match was in the 29th minute. Out of a corner Criscito headed the ball at the crossbar and 20 seconds later, while Criscito was still on the way back to the defense, Acquafresca shot the ball behind Rubinho: 1-1. A few seconds before the halftime whistle of the referee Cagliari got a corner that was headed by Acquafresca on the post, but the ball bounced at the back of unlucky Rubinho into the goal: 2-1 and Rubinho injured. In the second half with Scarpi, Figueroa and Danilo in the team Genoa tried to score the equalizer but only 1 time Leon was close.

Genoa wins again: 2-1 against Catania

Danilo after his first goal with Genoa

The new 3-5-2 concept of Mr. Gasperini with Borriello and Figueroa together as strikers directly gave us 3 points. After 14 minutes Borriello’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Polito, but the ball jumped towards Danilo: 1-0. Again after 14 minutes – this time in the second half – another goal of Genoa but very unlucky Bovo headed the ball in our own goal: 1-1. Of course Genoa did everything to win and in the 71st minute after hands of an Catania-player we got a penalty, that was realized by Borriello: 2-1.

Genoa is now on the shared 8th position in the standings, together with Palermo and Sampdoria, the others of Genova that are our home-opponent in 2 weeks in the derby.

In short time is also expected the arrival of 20 years old Belgium international (!) Anthony Vanden Borre. The youngster is raised in the youth of Anderlecht and was tranfered last summer to Fiorentina (€ 3,8 million). The 1.85 tall defensive midfielder probably will be changed for 6 months with Papa Waigo. We already contacted our Belgium-member Tim de Smet and as soon as the transfer is official we give you all the information about this great wonderkid that is born in Congo.

Despite all the good news, today also a medical test made clear that Leon is injured and he can not play for the first 20 days. We surely have to miss him against Atalanta, Milan and probably Catania.
