Luca Antonelli scores against Milan: 1-0

Believe it or not but our Genoa is 3rd in the standings of Serie A after 14 matches. After the 1-1 draw at home against Empoli (Bertolacci) and the victory in Bentegodi against  Chievo (1-2 by Matri and Pinilla) we have beaten Juventus in Marassi by a goal of Luca Antonini in the 94th minute. Another victory in Udine(2-4 with goals of Marchese, Falque, Matri and Kucka), 1-1 draws against Cagliari (own goal of Rossettini) and at home against Palermo (Antonelli) and a 0-3 victory in Cesena (Matri, Antonelli and Burdisso) brought us already on the 4th position in the standings close behind Napoli. Last Sunday our friends of Naples draw 2-2 against Empoli and the header of Luca Antonelli gave us the 1-0 victory against Milan, so we are now third in the standings behind Juventus and Roma. Next Sunday we play at home against A.S. Roma.

Serie A/Genoa-Lazio

our best player so far this season: Diego Perotti, supported by Gasp

Good start of season: 8 points in 6 matches

Parma Matri 2014

Genoa started the season 2014/2015 very good with 2 victories against Lazio (1-0 in Marassi) and Parma (1-2 in Parma), 2 draws in the away-matches against Fiorentina     (0-0) and Hellas Verona (2-2) and 2 defeats in Luigi Ferraris against Napoli (1-2 in the 94th minute) and Sampdoria (0-1). Unfortunately the derby was lost by an irregular goal and the homematch against our friends of Napoli by a goal in the 94th and last minute.

Genoa ends season with defeat and victory

Genoa CFC v AS Roma - Serie A

genoa-roma-20141

Genoa has ended the 7th season in a row in Serie A with a 4-2 defeat against Sassuolo (goals of Calaiò and Gilardino, his 15th) and a 1-0 victory against A.S. Roma at Marassi with a goal of Fetfatzidis (see fotos). We reached a total of 44 points and the 14th position of the standings. Not a very remarkably season of our Griffins with only a few highlights: victories against Sampdoria (0-3) & Inter (1-0), the return of Gasperini and the “born” of the youngsters Mattia Perin and Stefano Sturaro in Serie A. This summer 3 Genoa-players are active at the Worldcup in Brasil: Mattia Perin (Italy, but National coach Prandelli forgot Gilardino), Sime Vrsaljko (Croatia) and Ioannis Fetfatzidis (Greece). We wish them a lot of succes and hope that all 3 stay with us next season.

Goalless draw in Marassi: Genoa-Bologna 0-0

The line-up against Bologna

The last 2 seasons Genoa played very good in the last matches because there was the concrete danger of relegation to Serie B. This year Mr. Gasperini lead us to an easy position in the middle of the standings far arway of the relegationzone. Of course without the possibility of reaching European football and without the danger of relegation you still have to fight for every point. Genoa did fight against Bologna but not with the passion which usually makes us a very hard team to beat in our Luigi Ferraris stadium. On the other hand Bologna is in big relegationproblems and they need every point. The concurrents of Bologna did win their matches againt teams that just as Genoa have nothing to play for: Catania-Roma 4-1 and Fiorentina-Sassuolo 3-4. Comparing to these 2 matches Genoa played a descent match, but especially in Luigi Ferraris we expect more of our Rossoblu team. Next week we play in Reggio Emilia against Sassuolo another team that needs every point to stay in Serie A. With another draw Genoa does not influence the standings in a bad way like Roma and Fiorentina did.

Good Genoa 100% sure of 8th year Serie A

Soccer: serie A, Atalanta-Genoa

Paolo de Ceglie scores after maybe the best Genoa-combination this season

With a 1-1 draw in Bergamo the Gasp-boys now have 40 points in the standings. Number 18 in the standings Bologna has 28 points, so with 3 matches to play our team is 100% sure of playing next season for the 8th time in a row in Serie A. A record for our club since the 2nd World War. After first a shot of Bertolacci against the post 14 minutes later Genoa probably scored the best goal of the season. After a great combination of Fetfatzidis and Gilardino the ball went to Antonelli who gave a perfect cross back towards De Ceglie and his header was in the far corner: 0-1. At the beginning of the 2nd half Portanova was send away with a very dubious red car after a foul (?) against Denis who also got a penalty that was stopped by Mattia Perin. As often the last time we took a goal in the last minutes. This time it was De Luca who scored, but clearly in an off-side position. Everybody saw it, except referee Peruzzo and his linesman.

Again defeat at end of match: 1-2 vs Cagliari

Serie A/Genoa-Cagliari

De Maio and Sau scored both goals in the first half of the match

Again an unnecessary defeat for our Rossoblu-team. The match started perfectly with the opening-goal of De Maio already in the third minute of the match. Right after the goal Genoa was a few times close to the 2nd goal which probably would decide the match. A mistake of Sturaro and De Maio gave Sau the opportunity to score the equalizer in the 37th minute: 1-1 at halftime. In the 37th minute of the 2nd half another big mistake in the defense of Genoa, this time by De Maio and Burdisso, gave Sau again the chance to score but he was stopped by Mattia Perin the rebound however was scored by Ibarbo: 1-2. In the 95th minute Gilardino scored the equalizer in the last second of the match, but the goal was regulary annulated because of off-side. Again a defeat to the Gasp-boys who left the field without saying goodbye to the fans.

Torino-Genoa 2-1 (after 90 minutes: 0-1)

13-04-2014 TORINO - CAMPIONATO SERIE A TIM 2013 2014 TORINO GENOA

Gilardino scores the openinggoal in the 86th minute: 0-1

Again a defeat for our Genoa after a good match. After 90 minutes the Gasp-boys were still in the lead by 0-1 after a goal of Gilardino (his 14th). In the 92nd minute Immobile scored the equalizer, which was the most honest result for this match. Everybody happy with a draw ? Not Alessio Cerci because with a great goal in the 7 of the goal behind Mattia Perin he scored 2-1 in the 94th and last minute of the match. Genoa already lost 7 points in injurytime this season against Cagliari (2-1 Sau in the 92nd minute), Atalanta (1-1 De Luca in the 94th minute), Chievo (2-1, Paloschi  in the 93rd minute) and now Torino (2-1 by goals of Immobile in the 92nd and Cerci in the 94th minute). Saturday we can have revanche for the lost match against Cagliari with the unbelievable red card of referee Giacomelli to Thomas Manfredini. We need 1 point to be 100% sure of another year in Serie A. Forza Genoa!

Great Genoa pointless against Milan: 1-2

1214131-25341744-640-360

Marco Motta scores his first goal in front of Gradinata Nord

Just as the match against Juventus the Gasp-boys played very good, deserved at least a draw but finished the match with a defeat. With Fetfatzidis and Burdisso back in the line-up we started very passioned and aggressive against Milan. The openinggoal however was scored by Taarabt after a great run from the midfield, the only shot of Milan on the goal of Mattia Perin in the first half. After the goal Genoa became even more stronger but did not succeed in scoring the equalizer. In the 56th minute a counter of Milan gave Honda the chance to double the score, which happened because Sculli couldn’t touch the ball out of the goal: 0-2. With Centurion in the team Genoa played even more offensive (cornerscore: 8-1 to Genoa) and Marco Motta scored 1-2 with a great shot in the 73rd minute. A few minutes later again Motta and Fetfatzidis were close to the equalizer but we did not get what we deserved also because referee Banti helped the big team of Milan a little to whistle every time Balotelli felt down for nothing and to give only 4 minutes of injurytime while it should be at least 7.
