new Modesto+Di Gennaro; Borriello to Milan

Francesco Modesto left midfielderDavide di Gennaro playmaker

After weeks of speculation in the newspapers, on radio, tv and internet tonight Genoa’s President Enrico Preziosi spoke the words we all don’t want to hear: Marco Borriello goes back to A.C. Milan. To have their 50% of Super Marco back Milan has to pay € 9 million and 50% of young very talented playmaker Davide di Gennaro. The young midfielder celebrates on the 16th of June his 20th birthday and he already played 1 match in Serie A with Milan in the season 2006-2007 and 21 matches with 2 goals this year in Serie B with Bologna. Davide also plays for many years with the Italian national youth-teams.

To see the great qualities of Davide di Gennaro watch the highlights of the Primavera-match Udinese-Milan (1-3) with 2 goals of number 10 of Milan: Davide di Gennaro:

Genoa today also bought Francesco (Cicco) Modesto of Reggina. The 26 years old left midfielder this season played 32 matches with 1 goal in Serie A, while he also was a line-up player in the highest league in Italy with the team of Reggio Calabria in the seasons 2006-2007 (35 matches with 2 goals) and 2005-2006 (37 matches, no goals). Because of the arrival of Modesto probably 1 of the Brazilians: Fabiano or Danilo leaves Genoa.

On the internet circulates the news that tommorow there will be the other long expected meeting with Juventus to talk about Criscito, Paro and several players of Juventus that Mr. Gasperini wants to have in our team next year. Last Monday Genoa’s president Enrico Preziosi told that after the € 17 million of last year he wants to spend € 30 – € 35 million this summer to have an even better team as last season with the hope to reach Uefa-cup football at the end. Let’s hope his wish will be true.

Season over, but transferperiod starts

Konko, new born star in the hands of Gasperini (foto Genoa C.F.C.)

For a lot of people the transferperiod is just as interesting as the football itselves. Especially in Italy there is always a lot of news about transfers and not more than 5% of the news is really true, but which 5% ? With Genoa Marco Borriello and Abdoulay Konko have a lot of interest from other (big) clubs, so it will be very difficult to keep these players in Genova. On the other hand Mr. Preziosi and Mr. Gasperini promised the Genoa-fans a more better team then last year.

Domenico Criscito in the shirt he loves the most

Just like every team in Italy also Genoa has a lot of players which are only for 50% owned by the club. Before 6th of June the clubs that own the players has to make a deal about the player. Some clubs already fixed the price of the player at the moment they sold 50%, for instance with Criscito the price of the 50% of Juventus is € 6,5 million which Genoa has to pay if they want to keep the young talented defender. With other players there is no amount in the contract and the clubs have to talk about the price of the other half. For instance 50% of Marco Borriello was bought by Genoa last summer when Preziosi payed  € 2 million to A.C. Milan. Now being an Italian national player and 19 goals in Serie A later the value of Marco Borriello is raised till around € 20 million, which means that if you want to have Marco Borriello completely you have to pay around € 10 million to the other owner. Probably Genoa finds this too much, so Borriello goes back to A.C. Milan that pays Genoa the large sum of money to have the other 50% of Super Marco. In that case Mr. Preziosi made a benefit of € 8 million in 1 year which he can use to buy new players or for instance to pay Juventus to have the other 50% of Criscito and Paro.

Matteo Paro with Clarence Seedorf

Genoa owns a lot of players for only 50%: Criscito, Bovo, Santos, Paro, VandenBorre and Borriello that played with them last year and Coppola (Siena), Forestieri (Siena), Papa Waigo (Fiorentina) and Masiello (Bari) who played with the other teams. Before the 6th of June there must be a deal between the 2 clubs and if they don’t find a solution both teams have to write down the price they want to pay to have the other 50% in an enveloppe which they have to give to the Football Association that opens them and the team who wrote down the highest price has to pay that price to the other team.

Thanks to Manuel, Andrea, Cicco and Papa

Manuel Coppola and Marco di Vaio

This evening at 19.00 hours the transferperiod in January ended in Italy. Genoa sold 4 substitutes: defenders: Andrea Masiello (Bari, Serie B) and Francesco Bega (Brescia, Serie B), midfielder Manuel Coppola (Siena) and striker Papa Waigo (Fiorentina). Only Francesco Bega is sold definitively, 50% of the ownership of the other 3 is still in Genoa’s hands.

Genoa also bought 4 players: Domenico Criscito (substitute of Masiello), Anthony Vanden Borre (Bega), Matias Masiero (Coppola) and Wilson (Papa Waigo). The new players are younger and all very talented, so let’s hope they can improve with Mr. Gasperini.

Genoa Club Amsterdam wants to thank Genoano of the year 2005-2006 Manuel Coppola for the special friendship and we hope “Coppolino” returns after this season in his loved red and blue shirt. On the other hand we are happy that Marco di Vaio stays with us and we hope he will play and score again very soon, like he did always and everywhere.

Belgium Anthony Vanden Borre 4th arrival

After days of rumours, tonight it was finally official: 20 years old Belgium international (17 matches) Anthony Vanden Borre plays the next 6 months with Genoa, while Papa Waigo has to wear the purple shirt of Fiorentina the rest of this season. Of course as the official Genoa-supportersclub in Belgium (and Holland) we are very proud and happy that again a player of our countries plays with Genoa.

Anthony Vanden Borre in Champions League with Anderlecht against Chelsea

Anthony Vanden Borre (1.85 x 78 kg) is born on 24th October 1987 in Linkasi (Congo) with a Belgium father and a Congolese mother that died last year. As football-player he raised in the youth of Anderlecht together with his friend Vincent Kompany who changed Anderlecht into HSV Hamburg in the summer of 2006. Anthony was selected at the age of 16 (!!) to the Belgium National team after only 5 matches in the first team of Anderlecht. On 28th April 2004 he played his first match with the Belgium National team against Turkey. As usual it is not easy to act normal if you are such an important football-player at such a young age and Anthony got some problems with his attitude.

After 69 matches in 4 years with 3 national titles he left Anderlecht last summer. The Belgium club did everything to keep the great talent in Brussels, but Fiorentina payed around € 3,8 millon and Anthony moved to Florence. The multi-functional player (right-defender, right-midfieldplayer, defensive midfielder) only played 5 matches (2 in Serie A, 2 in Uefa-Cup and 1 in Coppa Italia) in the viola-shirt. With Genoa he probably can raise as fast as in the beginning of his career. Mr. Gasperini is an expert in making young players very good in a short time, so it is a good move for both Anthony and Genoa. Welcome at the most beautiful football club in the world: Anthony Vanden Borre.

Today the transferdocuments of Matias Masiero arrived from Uruguay, so our new number 10 is, just like recovered Danilo, one of the 20 players that is now in the Sheraton hotel near the airport of Genova to prepare themselves for tomorrow’s match against Atalanta Bergamo. Not selected are: Bega, Coppola, Di Vaio, Leon and the arrivals of this week: Wilson and Vanden Borre.

new wing-striker Wilson Rodrigues Fonseca

As promised Mr. Enrico Preziosi today bought our new wing-striker: 22 year old Brazilian striker Wilson. The player of Corinthians is born in Araras (just like Danilo) on 21st march 1985, is 1.79 tall and weights 73 kilo’s. Tomorrow-morning after the medical test Wilson will sign his contract and goes to the trainingfield to meet his new teammates.

Wilson 3rd new arrival of Genoa

To introduce our new Brazilian striker hereby a compilaton of his goals with Corinthians:

In short time is also expected the arrival of 20 years old Belgium international (!) Anthony Vanden Borre. The youngster is raised in the youth of Anderlecht and was tranfered last summer to Fiorentina (€ 3,8 million). The 1.85 tall defensive midfielder probably will be changed for 6 months with Papa Waigo. We already contacted our Belgium-member Tim de Smet and as soon as the transfer is official we give you all the information about this great wonderkid that is born in Congo.

Despite all the good news, today also a medical test made clear that Leon is injured and he can not play for the first 20 days. We surely have to miss him against Atalanta, Milan and probably Catania.

Enrico Preziosi promises extra wing-striker

Enrico Preziosi enjoys a victory on the field

President and owner of Genoa C.F.C., Mr. Enrico Preziosi, who invested already 17 million €uro’s in transfers last summer (spend € 21 million, earned € 4 million) promised the fans of Genoa an extra wing-striker in the next days. At the moment Mr. Gasperini has 4 wing-strikers in his team: Leon, Sculli, Papa Waigo and Di Vaio. Because the last two don’t play like we all hoped at the beginning of the season one of them will be substituted by the new wing-striker.

The new striker will be the 3rd new player this transfer-period. Last week Domenico Criscito returned from Juventus and Matias Masiero arrived from Uruguay. Because Mr. Gasperini does not want more than 22 players in the team also 1 defender (Bega or Lucarelli say the newspapers) has to leave the club this winter. Will be continued ……

2nd new player: Matias Masiero (Uruguay); tomorrow: Lucchese-Genoa

Again a new player in the team of Genoa, after Criscito now Mr. Enrico Preziosi bought 19 years old wing-player Matias Masiero of Central Espanol di Montevideo (Uruguay).

Matias Masiero Matias Masiero, 1.76 high and 70 kilos.

Tomorrow Genoa plays a friendly match in maybe the most beautiful city of Toscany: Lucca against their local Serie C-1 team: Lucchese. Genoa surely misses Rossi and Borriello (both in bed with influenza), Papa Waigo (Afrika-cup) and injured Bega and Danilo. Mr. Gasperini already wants the 2 new players Criscito and Masiero to play, while he left Coppola and Di Vaio out of his 18-players selection. Should the two friends leave Genoa in a short time ?

Domenico Criscito is (finally) back home

Mimmo Criscito against (and not with) Juventus

The only line-up player of last season that had to leave Genoa last summer is back where he belongs. Despite the fact that a lot of football-watchers think Mimmo Criscito has everything to become the new Paolo Maldini, he never was very popular with Juventus. The main reason: last summer Criscito told everybody that he wanted to stay with Genoa in stead of moving to Juventus, the most succesful and biggest club of Italy. Millions of boys in the whole world dream to play once in the jail-outfit of Juventus, but not Criscito, he prefered to stay with Mr. Gasperini. Because of the fact Juventus is the owner of Mimmo, he had to go to Turin last summer, but after only 8 matches in Serie A and 1 in Coppa Italia the player of young Italy below 21 years is back. Genoa rents the young very talented defender till the end of the season and can buy him definitively by paying € 6 million next summer.

Criscito is the first arrival in this tranfer-period. The newspapers say that 2 or 3 other new players are expected the next weeks. Every day there are new names in the newspapers, but the strikers Jeda (Rimini) and Olivera (Juventus) and midfield-player Foggia (Cagliari and player of the Italian national team) are already for some days close to a transfer to Genoa in the opinion of the journalists. If all these players arrive, Mr. Gasperini also wants to say goodbye to some players because he wants to work with a maximum of 22 line-up candidates. In the rumours: defender Cicco Bega, midfield-player Manuel Coppola and the strikers Marco di Vaio and Papa Waigo are on the transferlist to leave Genoa. Let’s see what happens the next weeks.

Domenico Criscito comes home

Domenico Criscito returs after 6 months Juventus

Like in a good Christmas-story the loved son returns at home. After 6 months with Juventus defender Domenico Criscito returns to Genoa. Sunday 30th december the born Napolitan that was raised in the youth of Genoa becomes 21 years. After 37 matches in Serie B with Genoa he had to leave his loved club last summer to go to Juventus, the team that already owns him for some years. Criscito was one of the hundreds of players that were bought by Moggi the last 10 years, so at the moment he became one of the best players in Serie B and the Italian team under 21 years Juventus wanted him back. After only 8 matches in Serie A and 1 in Coppa Italia with Juventus he returns to Genoa and Gasperini. Welcome back home Domenico !

last day of transfers: 1 arrival and 5 goodbye’s

Today on the last possible day of transfers Genoa bougth 20-year old defender: Tommaso Ghinassi of Pistoiese. The player is a great talent that plays for years in the Italian youth-teams.

Because Mr. Gasperini wants only 2 players for every position in the team, today Genoa sold 5 players:

Goalkeeper: Gianluca Pegolo (Mantova, Serie B)

Defender: Cristian Stellini (Bari, Serie B)

Midfielder: Lucas Rimoldi (contract is cancelled; destination unknown, probably Argentina)

Forwards: Martins Adailton (Bologna, Serie B) and Mirco Gasparetto (Chievo, Serie B)

****

Now Mr. Gasperini has on the playerslist 2 players for every position in his 3-4-3 system:

Goalkeeper: Rubinho-Scarpi
Defense right: Bega-Masiello
Defense middle: De Rosa-Bovo
Defense left: Lucarelli-Santos
Midfield right: Rossi-Konko
Midfield middle defensive: Coppola-Juric
Midfield middle offensive: Milanetto-Paro
Midfield left: Fabiano-Danilo
Forward right: Papa Waigo-Leon
Forward middle: Borriello-Figueroa
Forward left: Di Vaio-Sculli

Besides those 22 players there are also 3 extra youngsters: Ghinassi, Signorini and Raggio Garibaldi

All of this means that our coach trust a lot on the physical conditions of Luciano Figueroa, because he is the only substitute of injured central forward Marco Borriello after the selling of Gasparetto to Chievo Verona today.
