The earth gets warmer, but not today

Yeaterday-afternoon mr. Gasperini and his 21 players (everybody except the injured Danilo and Di Vaio) went by coach to Empoli, 25 kilometers west of Florence. The winter also has come to Italy, last night it was below zero in Toscany and during the match the expected temperature is 3 degrees, while it feels like -6 because of the wind.

over 2000 Genoa-fans to Empoli

Over 2000 Genoa-fans, including 100 schoolkids, travel 228 kilometers to Empoli in Toscany next Sunday. After the defeat against Siena and the 4-1 victory of Empoli against Cagliari this match is very important for both teams.

Genoa surely misses injured Danilo, while Cicco Bega returns after his penalty for his fourth yellow card. At the moment Fabiano and Di Vaio are injured, so it is not sure yet if they can play Sunday-afternoon.

Genoa down in only 23 minutes: 1-3

Genoa played the most bad match since the arrival of Mr. Gasperini 18 months ago. Against number last in the standings, Siena the Rossoblu-team lost the match during the first 23 minutes in which Siena scored three times.

 the second goal of Siena

In the rest of the 67 minutes Genoa was the team with the ball and we got a lot of corners (14-3), but goalkeeper Manninger of Siena never was in big troubles. Only in the 89th minute he was without any chance when Figueroa scored his first goal after a combination with our best man: Marco Borriello.

It doesn’t matter in which team Marco di Vaio plays, the 31 years ago in Rome born striker scores everywhere. In his career he played with Lazio (3 goals), Verona (1), Bari (3), Salernitana (33), Parma (41), Juventus (18), Valencia (11), Monaco (8) and with the Italian national-team (2 goals in 14 games). Since january 2007 Marco plays with Genoa and in his first half-year he already scored 9 goals which brought Genoa back in Serie A after 12 years. This season he already scored against Cagliari and more goals are coming. Outside the field you can always find him together with our other player of Rome: Manuel Coppola. Let’s hope the two of them stay for many years with Genoa.

Kevin Bobson Also in Holland Marco di Vaio is very popular. Dutch Serie-A striker Kevin Bobson (born in Amsterdam, raised in the youth of Ajax and now playing with Willem II in the south of Holland) named his son after our friendly striker: Divaio. So the goals will continue in the future by Divaio Bobson.

Genoa draws in Torino: 1-1

Borriello scored his 7th goal of the season

Again Mr. Gasperini surprised everybody with his line-up. He put Papa Waigo and Di Vaio in the team on the positions of Leon and Sculli. He also chose Milanetto and not Coppola in midfield, while Scarpi had to substitute infortunate Rubinho. After a first half without goals it was Marco Borriello that opened the score 2 minutes after the break. The happiness lasted only 8 minutes when Lanna scored the equalizer: 1-1.  Both teams had opportunities to score the winning goal, but after all a draw was the right result.

tomorrow-evening Toro-Genoa

Genoa-Torino friends forever

Tomorrow-evening at 20.30 hours the friends of Genoa and Torino play against each other in the Olympic stadium of Torino. Despite the fact that it is forbidden to Genoa-fans to visit the match, around 500 are expected inbetween their Granata-friends. The team of Mr. Gasperini will be certainly different of last weeks. Three of our regulary line-up midfielders (Paro, Juric and Danilo) are banned because of their 4th yellow card last week. Every week it is a suprise which eleven Genoani start the match, but let’s try for tomorrow: Rubinho; Bega, Bovo, Lucarelli; Rossi, Konko, Coppola (Milanetto), Fabiano; Leon; Borriello and Figueroa.

Genoa beaten by ex-player Panucci: 0-1

Panucci scores while De Rossi blocks Borriello

Sometimes you win, while the most honest result was a draw, like Genoa did in Naples. Another time you should win the match, but the opponent scores the equalizer in the last minute just as during Genoa-Palermo. But the most bad matches are those that you loose in the last minute while you didn’t deserve it, like last Saturday during Genoa-Roma.

The 11 players of Mr. Gasperini played a good match against the 14 (11 + referee Rosetti and both linesmen) of Roma. Matteo Paro hit the post with a fantastic shot halfway the second half and Marco di Vaio scored a regular goal that was cancelled wrongly because of off-side. These things unfortunately can happen in football and of course also Roma had some good chances to score, but the 5 dubious yellow cards of Genoa by referee Ro(ma)setti let us all in the stadium think of the Moggi-period of last years. Maybe the fact that international (?) referee Rosetti lives in Torino, the city of the next opponent of Genoa, makes something clear. Genoa misses 3 important players next Sunday (Paro, Juric and Danilo) because they all got a very dubious yellow card.

Pierluigi Collina If the boss of the referees Collina  is as honest as he was in his period of referee he should take care that international referee Rosetti doesn’t whistle a new match this year, just like any other referee that makes such big mistakes. We all fear that Rosetti won’t be punished and Genoa gets a high money-penalty because of the songs of the public against Rosetti and Lega Calcio because of the fact that they have forbidden to Genoa-fans to travel to Torino next week to see the match against our friends of Torino. Or is Lega Calcio afraid that Genoa-fans do find the house of Rosetti in Torino ?!
