Not Klaas Jan Huntelaar of A.C. Milan but the central-striker of Inter: David Suazo must become our goalscorer for the rest of the season. The 30 years old player of Honduras will be rent the next 6 months, while our present striker Sergio Floccari will be hired to Lazio for the rest of the season. Suazo can play his first match Wednesday 6th January in San Siro against A.C. Milan, the team that wanted to buy him 2 years ago.

Today everybody was surprised by the exchange of goalkeepers between Palermo (Amelia) and Genoa (Rubinho). Everybody knew that Rubinho refused to enlarge his contract that ends next year and we all read that Mr. Preziosi wanted to pay him a higher salary because of Ruby’s improval last season, but nobody every thought about an exchange with Marco Amelia of Palermo. Amelia asked his President Mr. Zamparini permission to return to the North of Italy and to let him play in Europe because he wants to keep his position as second goalkeeper of the National team of Italy behind Buffon. Now both goalkeepers and both clubs are happy, but our Mr. Gasperini has to create a complete new hart of the team with the departure of Rubinho, Ferrari, Motta and Milito.

In the meanwhile Genoa also found a new shirtsponsor with the Italian Fashion company Gaudi Trade and Wednesday we draw 0-0 against Reggiana (Serie C-1) in Reggio Emilia.

Matteo Ferrari (29 years) could not refuse the fantastic financial offer of € 2,5 million netto every year of Besiktas (Turkey), so he left Genoa after only 1 fantastic season. With the youngsters Salvatore Bocchetti (22) and Sokratis Papastathopoulos (21) we already have 2 good central defenders in the selection that can substitute “King of the air” Ferrari. Besides the youngsters also 32 years old Giuseppe Biava can play as a central defender, while probably tomorrow also another central defender (Andrea Esposito of Lecce) will be bought by Mr. Preziosi. 

Because Mr. Gasperini transformed Mimmo Crisicito into a left-midfield player we needed a new left defender. After 5 seasons with Valencia (Spain) now Emiliano Moretti (29) returns in his homecountry to play with Genoa. We also found our 6th striker after Sculli, Jankovic, Crespo, Floccari and Palladino in Argentinian Rodrigo Palacio (27) of Boca Juniors, who already played 8 times in his National team. Now Mr. Gasperini has, as he wanted, 6 players who can play as the 3 strikers in the favorite 3-4-3 system.

A few minutes ago our president Mr. Enrico Preziosi admitted on televison that Inter bought Diego Milito and Thiago Milito, probably our best 2 players of this season. Genoa gets a lot of money (€ 16 million ?) and some players of Inter (Aquafresca, Crespo and Arnautovic ??) in return, but the players first have to sign the contract with Genoa before Mr. Preziosi can publish their names. Of course it is sad that our best 2 players leave Genoa, but last year we also lost our 2 best players with Borriello and Konko and this year we only became stronger … and our most important “player” Gasperini stays.

Mr. Preziosi also brought the news that Genoa already bought (€ 11 million) striker Sergio Floccari of Atalanta, who scored 12 times so far this season. The 27 years old striker already played 9 matches with Genoa in the season 2002-2003 (Serie B) in which he scored 1 goal against Catania. One thing is sure, Mr. Preziosi promised us an even stronger team than this season and the last years prove that we can trust him !

As promised by president Preziosi Genoa did not sell line-up players during the transferperiod in January. All big clubs wanted to buy Diego Milito, but our topscorer stays with us. Genoa only sold a few substitutes who need to have more playtime. The most important is Andrea Gasbarroni who played fantastic in the beginning of the season against Milan, Roma and Udinese till he got injured. Andrea plays the next 6 months with our friends of Torino and hopefully he can keep them in Serie A. Besides Gasbarroni also Davide Brivio (back to Vicenza), Alessandro Potenza (Catania) and Marcel Roman (Frosinone in Serie B) left Genova, while our rented big talent Fernando Forestieri changed Siena to Vicenza, also to have more playtime before he returns to Genoa. 

One of the most popular players leaves us: Luciano Figueroa returns to his homecountry to substitute Martin Palermo the striker of Boca Juniors who is heavily injured. After the comeback of Milito very friendly Lucho is the 3rd central-forward with Genoa, which means that he is the substitute of both Milito and Olivera. Genoa rents Figueroa to Boca Juniors, that also has the chance to buy him at the end of the rental-period for only $ 1.5 million. Goodbye Lucho and lots of succes with the Genovese team of Buenos Aires.   

Today Genoa presented the last new arrivals: midfielders Bosko Jankovic of Palermo and Thiago Motta of Atletico Madrid. Jankovic was already bought at the 1st September, the last day of the transfer-season. Brazilian midfield-player Thiago Motta ended his contract this summer with Atletico Madrid and signed last Sunday just before Genoa-Milan his 4 years contract. The 26 years old Motta played 5 years and 38 Champions league matches with F.C. Barcelona. Because of a heavy knee-injury he left Barcelona last year to Atletico Madrid, but in the capital of Spain he played because of his injury only 8 matches. A detailed medical test in Milano told Genoa that Motta is completely healthy now, so within a month he must be ready to play his first match in our red and blue shirt.
